Guardians Of The Galaxy would 'beat the sh*t' out of The Avengers, says James Gunn

Director James Gunn believes that the Guardians could easily destroy The Avengers, but fans don't agree with him.

The Guardians of the Galaxy films are officially over. After three highly successful films, all of which received positive acclaim from film critics and fans alike, director James Gunn is saying goodbye to Marvel once and for all, and will continue to serve as the co-chairman and co-CEO for DC Studios, instead.

Despite becoming the head of Marvel’s rival studio, Gunn is obviously still the authority on all things Guardians of the Galaxy lore, and as UNILAD reports, he recently stated that he believes that the heroes could take on The Avengers in a fight and win. I can’t say I really believe that, to be honest - in fact, I don’t think this is a question I’ve ever heard any debate about, like, ever. But hey, who am I to argue?

Take a look at the trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 below.

“Listen, I always thought that the Guardians would beat the s**t out of The Avengers easily,” Gunn told Michael Rosenbaum on a recent episode of his Inside of You podcast. “Like, it's just they're from outer space. They have technology that is pretty advanced, so it would be hard to beat them.”

If we’re talking pre-Endgame, Tony Stark has some of the greatest tech you could possibly imagine, so that’s one side of Gunn’s argument covered. Spider-Man also fills these boots admirably post-Endgame. As for raw strength, The Avengers still have the Hulk and Thor on their side, not to mention Doctor Strange.

I’m not the only one a bit baffled by Gunn’s claim - on Twitter, Marvel fans have been stating even more reasons why they think The Avengers would come out on top.

“Hulk went to outer space and became an undefeated champion in combat. This wouldn't even be a contest,” @DonatoKen tweeted. “Iron Man would destroy them solo. Hulk would destroy them solo. Thor would destroy them solo,” @Jondonger1 wrote. “With all due respect… A Hulk, a LITERAL God, and a much better leader... c’mon,” added @MMAnomaly.
