Grand Theft Auto V accounts for almost half of the total sales success of Grand Theft Auto as a whole series, with 170 million copies sold as per Take-Two Interactive's latest financial data.
You know what? I was on the Wikipedia entry for the "List of best-selling video game franchises" the other day, because my life is a mile a minute, and it's actually surprising. Out of the two, which has sold more copies - Dr Kawashima's Brain Training or FromSoftware's Souls series? How about a harder one? Which is more successful - God of War or Far Cry? Seriously, spending about 20 minutes on Wikipedia every day increases your grey matter by a milligram by stuffing it with useless factoids.
With God of War's PC port, players have spoiled us and the game irrevocably with mods. Check out CJ and Big Smoke's misadventures in Midgard below!
In Take-Two Interactive's latest earnings report, the company heaped compliments on the developers and employees driving Grand Theft Auto Online's continued achievements. "Latest generation console players of Grand Theft Auto Online grew over 40% this quarter and are monetizing at a rate 36% higher than players on the previous generation," said CEO Strauss Zelnick (try not to read that in Mr Krabs' voice). "Sales of Grand Theft Auto V also remained strong, and to date, the title has sold-in nearly 170 million units. With development of the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series well underway, the Rockstar Games team is determined to once again set creative benchmarks for the series, our industry, and for all entertainment, just as the label has done with every one of their frontline releases."

Since 1997, Grand Theft Auto has sold 380 million copies across the 23 games that have been released by Rockstar Games and its collaborators. So, Grand Theft Auto V accounting to nearly half of all copies sold is an immense testament to the quality and the reputation that this game has. Grand Theft Auto VI has a very high bar to clear.
