Hello, reader. I heard you were hoping for some GTA news? Something about a new game? Hah, preposterous. Rockstar says you’re going to keep on getting the same remasters, ports, and updates to the online expansion of a 2013 game, whether you like it or not.
And now, according to one industry insider on Twitter, @Matheusbr9895_, GTA Online could soon be seeing a new map, as well as a new mode.
ICYMI... check out the trailer for the upcoming PS5 port of GTA V below.
“[Rockstar’s] original plan was the same (referring to companies simply upgrading the old-gen games with patches) with a GTA Online Standalone launching sometime in 2021,” they posted to Twitter on 15 January (in Portuguese, we have used Google to translate). “But with the growth and evolution of GTA Online, it needs to have a mechanic that can withstand the precision and constant growth ahead. Since they are doing a re-adaptation […] Rockstar Games is preparing three amazing things for GTA Online. I can't say much, but pack your bags.”
This is pure speculation, but the phase “pack your bags” certainly seems to suggest that GTA Online players could be expecting a change of scenery soon. The leaker then followed up with a since-deleted post, which could well be related: "O escopo que nunca vimos sobre uma atualização: Cops 'n Croocks, para GTA Online. Basicamente, a história girava em torno de Don Percival, junto com sua equipe Merryweather, que a alocou para um novo local, familiar. Junte-se à polícia ou fuja para manter sua progressão.
"Lester e seus "velhos amigos", poderiam ter algum tipo de envolvimento com os jogadores para fugir e manter a progressão. Espero que a equipe da Rockstar Games estejam assegurados para tratar sobre isso em algum momento. Há muitas coisas interessantes nesse conteúdo."
To translate that for you, again just using Google so forgive any mistakes: “A scope we've never seen [for] an update: Cops 'n Crooks, for GTA Online. Basically, the story revolves around Don Percival, along with his team Merryweather, who [have] relocated to a new, familiar location. Join the police or run away to maintain your progression. Lester and his ‘old friends’ could have some sort of involvement with the players, to get away and keep the progression. I hope [that] Rockstar Games team are assured to address this at some point. There are many interesting things in this content.”
Obviously, this is all unconfirmed at the moment, speculation and rumour only. But if it’s true, ity will certainly provide something interesting to keep ourselves awake in GTA Online while we wait for any news at all about GTA VI. In the meantime, there’s also the “expanded and enhanced” version of GTA V to look out for. You know, the new-gen port that doesn't look any different to the 2015 PS4 and Xbox One versions. Fun! According to the very same insider, though, that might actually be delayed to April or May, so there’s potentially a lot of official GTA news on the way from Rockstar very soon - we'll have to stay tuned.
