There is no doubt that when it comes to highly anticipated games, none has brought the same level of excitement as GTA VI in recent years.
Following months of rumours and leaks, Rockstar Games finally revealed the first trailer for GTA VI in December 2023 and within hours, it had already become one of the most-watched trailers on YouTube.

Whenever a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series arrives, it’s always a massive event for the video game industry and many have expectations that GTA VI will be the biggest video game release of all time.

However, as with any game that brings massive hype, there’s always a chance that those expectations are so high, that even the likes of GTA VI might struggle to achieve and anything less than near perfection, could result in a social media meltdown and fan backlash.
This is a reason why many believe that Half-Life 3 might not ever be released, despite leaving us on a major cliffhanger in the Episode Two DLC for Half-Life 2. It’s gotten to the point that even if we were to finally get Half-Life 3, developer Valve might be scared of it not achieving the lofty expectations that it has garnered over the years.
With that in mind, as reported by Insider Gaming via an interview with SanInPlay, ex-Rockstar Games developer Obbe Vermeij gave his thoughts on the potential of GTA VI, and his opinion may disappoint fans.
“I don’t think it’s going to be wildly different from GTA V, I think maybe people might be a little disappointed on the first day. But it’s still gonna be the best game out there,” he said.

“Given the expectations, I don’t see how it couldn’t,” said Twitter user Jay Dook in response with MrAtom04 adding “It undoubtedly will, purely because people have set their expectations impossibly high.”
Not to add to those already lofty expectations, but when it comes to the likes of Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption, Rockstar Games rarely disappoints and unless the ball is dropped massively, I’d like to think that GTA VI will be no exception.
GTA VI does not have an exact release date, but it is currently set to launch towards the end of 2025 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S with a PC release yet to be confirmed.
