Grand Theft Auto VI has been pushed out of its original 2025 release window and into 2026, according to a new report that warns of a major delay to the Rockstar Games' title.
When GTA VI was finally unveiled last year alongside a 2025 release window, fans couldn't quite believe they were just over one year away from the next Grand Theft Auto. Alas, it would appear 2025 is now an optimistic outlook amid rumours Rockstar Games is currently behind schedule.
Take a look at GTA VI in all its glory below. Definitely already looking like the most ambitious open-world game we've ever seen!
Despite recent fan speculation that GTA VI could launch as soon as February 2025, a new report from Kotaku suggests development is "falling behind". While the aim is still very much to get the game out by spring 2025, an autumn release is now looking more likely, with an early 2026 launch on the table as an "emergency" option.

While the 2026 delay appears to be the nuclear option, it's worth noting senior staff are apparently worried it is an option at all. With that said, I'm fairly confident I speak for most of us when I say we've waited this long for GTA VI, and if a 2026 release is what it takes to ensure staff aren't having to crunch to get the game released and in a working state, that's what it takes.
At present we're all still waiting for the second trailer for GTA VI, which we're assuming will give us a proper look at gameplay. I'd also have imagined this is where we'd get the release date set in stone, but if things are as in flux on that front as it sounds to be from the Kotaku report, I wouldn't hold your breath.
