Thanks to a leak for one of Take-Two’s other games, we can now narrow down the release date for Grand Theft Auto VI… although you may not like what I’m about to tell you.
Oopsie, someone at Steam just let the cat out of the bag, because we now know exactly when Mafia: The Old Country is going to release.
As detailed in a news story by Insider Gaming's Grant Taylor-Hill, the Latin American Steam store page for the upcoming game just accidentally gave away its official release date.

Assumedly, this was supposed to be revealed during PAX East towards the end of the month, as developers for Mafia: The Old Country have already announced that they’ll be in attendance.
Here’s what the Steam news post states (translated into English): “Mafia: The Old Country is available August 8, 2025. Pre-order now for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, and stay tuned to the official Mafia website for more information.”
You can take a look at the game in action below.
So, how does this news relate to Rockstar Games’ GTA VI? Well, the folks over in a thread on the r/GTA6 subreddit have a few ideas.

“So Mafia is gonna have a three month marketing period,” commented user WeeklySavings.
“If GTA VI will also have three months to market that means July or August will start marketing if the game releases October or November.”
“For me this pretty much rules out anything happening before 8 May,” replied user SittingByTheRiverr.
“If they release trailer two before the Mafia gameplay presentation, then it will take all the limelight and everyone will forget about Mafia TOC - cant see TT letting them do that. Interesting to note 8 May is gonna be a week or so before the May earnings call.”

Essentially, Take-Two won’t want to make two of their games compete with one another, especially when Mafia: The Old Country and Grand Theft Auto VI both happen to be open-world, third-person shooters.
The good news is that this paves the way for a pretty specific release window. Take-Two’s other big game this year, Borderlands 4, is set to drop on September 23.
Now that we know Mafia: The Old Country is dropping before it, that likely points to a November/December release date for GTA VI.
The bad news is that, considering Mafia: The Old Country is set to drop in less than four months, we probably won’t be getting a second trailer for GTA VI until Take-Two has finished their first half of the other game’s marketing push.

That is, unless… the second trailer is going to drop before that marketing push begins? Actually, never mind, I don’t want to give you lot anymore false hope.
