Just over a week ago, the OceanGate tourist submersible that takes paying customers on a tour of the Titanic wreck site, 12,500ft below the surface, went missing.
In 1912, the infamous passenger liner sank to the bottom of the North Atlantic Ocean after colliding with an iceberg claiming an estimated 1,500+ of the 2,224 passengers aboard the RMS Titanic.
Tragically, the Titanic sub was discovered after it reportedly ‘imploded’ and suffered a ‘catastrophic failure’. The expedition claimed a total of five lives of those onboard, including co-founder of OceanGate Stockton Rush, as well as British billionaire Hamish Harding, British-Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman, and finally, French marine expert, Paul-Henri Nargeolet.

This tragedy has naturally garnered a lot of media attention and that intrigue has crept its way into the world of video games. One such example is the indie horror game Iron Lung. The premise of Iron Lung sees the player trapped aboard a primitive submarine. Before the OceanGate sub was discovered, sales of Iron Lung soared. Developer of the game David Szymanski described the spike in sales as “so wrong.”
Sadly, as reported by GameRant, while the sales spike for Iron Lung was inadvertent and seemingly made no direct attempt to capitalise on the tragedy, that hasn't stopped some GTA V modders from creating OceanGate Titanic submarine content.
The insenstive mod in question allows players to explore the ocean using the OceanGate submarine. The sub is said to be fully drivable with working lights as well as an operational frontal hatch for players to enter and exit the vehicle. However, only one player can enter the modded GTA V submarine.
We at GAMINGbible send our condolences to those impacted by the OceanGate tragedy.
