For several years, Game of Thrones was nothing but a distant memory yet the franchise is now once again gaining traction. House of the Dragon debuts in just a few short weeks and we now know that a Jon Snow spin off is also in development with Kit Harrington set to return.
Game of Thrones' final season debuted three years ago and it certainly split opinion. The GAMINGbible team may rib me about it, but I’m not afraid to admit that I actually quite enjoyed season eight but the vast majority of fans didn’t. The good news is that after years of waiting, George R.R. Martin is finally opening up about his own ending in a brand new The Winds of Winter update.
Check out the trailer for House of the Dragon ahead of the show’s premiere on 21 August, 2022.
George R.R. Martin is well known for taking his sweet time when it comes to writing. The first book in the A Song of Ice & Fire series was published way back in 1996, with the most recent book, A Dance of Dragons, released in 2011. For over a decade now, fans have been clamouring for Martin to finish the series so they could see his vision of the ending and whilst we still don’t know when The Winds of Winter is coming, the author has teased what the book will entail.

In a new blog post, Martin confirmed that his writing was deviating “further and further away from the television series.” He wrote, “Yes, some of the things you saw on HBO in Game of Thrones you will also see in The Winds of Winter (though maybe not in quite the same ways) but much of the rest will be quite different.”
The author also opened up about which characters he plans to kill off. He noted that, “Not all of the characters who survived until the end of Game of Thrones will survive until the end of [the] A Song of Ice & Fire [series]. Some will, sure. Of course. Maybe most, but definitely not all.” He went on to add, “The ending? You will need to wait until I get there. Some things will be the same. A lot will not.”
There you have it. It looks like we will finally be getting a brand new ending to Game of Thrones so if you’re still mad about King Bran, keep your eyes peeled for The Winds of Winter.
