Nintendo has Mario, Xbox has Master Chief and PlayStation has... well, who does PlayStation have? There's an argument to be made for a fair few of famous faces, yet the stratospheric success of God of War seems to suggest that it might be Kratos. Of course, this is being met with a debate that's hot enough to grill some shrimp.
Sliding in at the end of the year, God of War Ragnarök has scooped up an impressive 10 nominations at The Game Awards as well as a whole host of impeccable review scores. Our own Ewan said that the game is "a truly stunning achievement" from Sony Santa Monica with "world-class visuals, top performances, and impressively slick combat," offering a world that "improves on the original game in every conceivable way." In short, it's not half bad.

Resetera user Dust posed the poll that Kratos should be the mascot for PlayStation and argued that the character is memorable, has a unique weapon, and developed beyond his more two-dimensional beginnings. "After smashing success the IP nails over and over, I think Kratos has become the defacto mascot character. People play these games FOR Kratos in a quite decent margin," they said. The poll has had nearly one thousand votes from gamers, with over 30% of those participating saying that the sad dad is the face of the brand. "He has appeared in games across four generations (PS2, PS3, PS4, PS5). So I think Kratos meets the longevity required for a console mascot," added another.

Plenty of people said it's Astrobot, for the obvious reason that he lives inside the consoles, however we were only introduced to the character in 2016. Others championed Crash Bandicoot but this choice feels a lot like a historical mascot rather than an enduring mascot as the games have since become multiplatform. The most popular answer to the poll though was that there is no mascot for PlayStation and that's fine. With a calibre of titles from The Last of Us to Ratchet and Clank to Spyro to Horizon, players are spoiled for representatives of the games that have changed their lives.
