Over the years Bethesda has been one of the most popular video game developers in the industry providing us with some of the most beloved RPGs there ever was.
Whether it’s The Elder Scrolls, Fallout or the most recent Starfield, Bethesda RPGs will keep us busy for years to come. Though Starfield still has a long way to go before it’s even got close to the legendary ranks of Oblivion, Skyrim and Fallout 3.
Check out the Fallout: New Vegas trailer below!
One of the most popular Bethesda RPGs of all time is Fallout: New Vegas developed by Obsidian Entertainment. Released in 2010 for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Fallout: New Vegas was met with high critical acclaim from reviewers and fans alike with solid scores in the 80s on aggregate websites such as Metacritic. It even boasted a wealth of fantastic DLC to support the then-latest classic from Bethesda.

The success of Fallout: New Vegas is all the more remarkable when you consider that it was originally intended to be an expansion to Fallout 3. Over the years, there have been rumours that there will be a Fallout: New Vegas 2 and it’s something that the developers at Obsidian Entertainment would love to see also. Sadly, there has been no indication that it will ever happen, though we do know that we will be getting Fallout 5 at some point.
However, inspired by the success of Fallout: New Vegas, Chris Avellone, a former writer at Obsidian Entertainment revealed that the studio once proposed the idea to Bethesda of releasing a spinoff to The Elder Scrolls series.
Responding to a tweet regarding speculation on the rumoured The Elder Scrolls spinoffs, Avellone said “This is true. One of the Elder Scrolls proposals (which I pitched) was intended to serve the same function as Fallout: New Vegas did between Fallout 3 and Fallout 4, to provide more adventures in the setting during the years before the next Bethesda release.”

Avellone went on to suggest that he wanted to release The Elder Scrolls games regularly similar to the Call of Duty series “but less rushed”. It’s a shame that this proposed idea never came to fruition because I like the prospect of having at least one standalone spinoff in The Elder Scrolls series. Oh well, I guess we can’t mourn what we never had.
You can play much of The Elder Scrolls and Fallout series on PC and Xbox at no extra cost if you subscribe to Xbox Game Pass. As for when The Elder Scrolls VI or Fallout 5 might be released, expect them to be a few years away, at least.
