Ben Affleck is set to make his final appearance as Batman, alongside returning Batman Michael Keaton, in the upcoming DC flick, The Flash, but fans aren’t willing to let him go just yet.
Affleck took on the mantle of the world’s greatest detective in Zach Snyder’s controversial Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, before reprising his role in both versions of Justice League, along with a cameo in Suicide Squad (2016). Now he’ll be hanging up the cape, albeit very briefly, in a short cameo appearance in The Flash, before Barry Allen presumably upsets the timeline and brings back Michael Keaton’s version.
Safe to say the majority of fans aren’t happy with this send-off, especially since Ben Affleck never got the chance to shine, or brood, in his own solo-movie, instead restricted to team-up appearances with other heroes, with only small glimpses of his solo vigilantism.
Twitter user @blurayangel started a thread saying: “Crazy that we never got Ben Affleck’s stand-alone Batman movie” and fans quickly agreed, showing their love for Affleck’s incarnation of the dark knight, as well as their dismay that DC never gave him his own project.

“He’s my favorite Batman. I love the older more mature batman. Reminds me of the comic books. He did a really well job with that in my opinion.”
“If you think about it Zack could’ve made a stand alone movie but instead decided to make Batman’s first movie fighting Superman which is definitely not rushed at all”
“He’s was the best 1 as much as they hate to admit it.”
Affleck was actually supposed to have his own movie, that’d see the Batman face-off against the ruthless and dangerous mercenary Slade Wilson, AKA Deathstroke. The assassin would pursue Batman after discovering his secret identity, which was told to him by Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luther in a post-credit scene of the original Justice League cut.

Admittedly, it would have been incredible to see those two battle it out in a feature film, as the two tend to be on an even playing field in terms of fighting ability, and actually have a weird amount of respect for each other.
Unfortunately, it’s unlikely we’ll ever see the cancelled flick, but who knows, DC Studios seem to be leaning more into the multiverse under the leadership of it’s new co-CEO James Gunn, who recently ended his career with Marvel with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
The Flash is set to sprint onto the big screen on the 16th of June, and has been called the “best superhero film ever” in early screening reactions.
