The concept of a remake is by no means new, but it’s an idea that stirs far more controversy these days. It’s interesting because remakes are a necessity in gaming. As much as we’d all love to have an extensive retro collection, it’s simply not possible. Remakes can ensure a title’s longevity - and isn’t access for all what we’re really after?
When The Last of Us Part I was released last year, the internet erupted with chatter over whether the title was truly needed. Needed? No, but there’s no denying that technology has advanced in the nine years since The Last of Us first released. Dead Space and Resident Evil 4 remakes are next up on the remake release roster, but fans would also like to see Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag get the 2023 treatment.
Who’s excited for Assassin’s Creed Mirage? Take a look at the game in action below.
There’s a lot of support for a Black Flag remake, which surprises me given that it’s the same age as The Last of Us whose remake was branded a money grab by many. Fans of the title gathered on Reddit to share their hopes. User kyromx123 wrote, “I don’t get why Ubisoft is not making another Black Flag. It was the highest selling AC game and till now, there is no competition in pirate games.”

Beard_Of_Gandalf added, “It needs to be rebuilt. Use the same score and voice acting and same story, but give me the open design islands like Odyssey. I want Odyssey-style exploration with Black Flag’s story,” while Alafian said, “A remake would be an instant buy with me. Loved the setting and I don’t know how many hours I spent just sailing from island to island listening to the shanties.”
Well, as far as we’re aware, a Black Flag remake isn’t on the cards but Ubisoft does have Skull & Bones in the pipeline. Thanks to the endless delays, I can’t say that it’s a highly-anticipated game but it is a pirate game that’s coming, so that’ll have to do.
