The Old West is an impressive little experience built from the ground up to showcase the beautiful visuals of this current generation of hardware.
It’s definitely giving Red Dead Redemption vibes and we’re here for it. You can find this Unreal Engine 5 walking simulator over on Itch where you can name your price, or snag it for free if you choose.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is still a great example of a near perfect RPG
In this demo you take control of a sheriff who is exploring the abandoned town of Northwood. You can switch from first-person to third-person perspectives and take in all the glorious details delivered by your 40-series GPU.

Because to get the best from this showcase, a 40-series will be the way to see all the visual bells and whistles from a framerate boost and improved DLSS support.
It’s up to you where you explore and you can change the time of day to really set the scene.
The demo was created by StunningVanilla as a challenge project after Epic Games released a project called ‘Old West Learning’ as a way to improve the skills of upcoming developers. This demo is the result of “months of learning.”
Taking advantage of modern technology, the demo features all kinds of details including dynamic wind, water ripples, ragdoll physics, small animals, accumulation of dust and snow, plus a lot more.

It’s the kind of experiment that makes us want a new Red Dead Redemption game, or perhaps StunningVanilla could start to work on an indie game because we’d buy a copy.
Expect a beautiful experience filled with music, lovely sound effects, and too many gorgeous vistas to count. If you’ve got the right hardware, give this a go and see just what’s possible with what’s under your hood.
