Popular multiplayer Viking survival sandbox game Valheim isn't coming to PlayStation consoles anytime soon, sorry guys.
Developed by Iron Gate Studio, Valheim was first released on PC Steam in 2021 as an early access title. However, it achieved an unexpected level of success during its first month of sale, selling over five million copies on Steam. To this day, according to SteamDB, it’s still one of the most played games on the platform with an all-time player peak of 502,387. At the time of writing, it has a 24-hour peak of 35,024 with 24,071 gamers playing right now.
“Valheim takes place in a world where slain Vikings go to prove themselves fit for the halls of Valhalla,” reads the game's synopsis. “As one such, the player begins with nothing and soon discovers that to reach the Norse afterlife, they must defeat the evils that stalk Valheim. Led only by their instincts and occasional hints from a raven, the player must prepare to fight the sworn enemies of Odin himself.”

This week, Valheim finally made its way to Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. According to an article from Pure Xbox, the folks in charge of Xbox played a pivotal role in bringing the game over to the green brand. During an interview on the XEP Podcast, Jonathan Smårs of Iron Gate Studios explained: “At some point, I think they [Xbox] reached out and were interested in seeing this on the Microsoft platforms. I don't actually know the details on that.”
When asked if Valheim will be coming to PlayStation, Smårs replied: “Currently we're only looking at the Xbox. But, you never know.” We’re sure that’s not the news that a lot of PlayStation fans wanted to hear, but as they say, never say never.
Valheim is available now on PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. It is also available for Xbox Game Pass subscribers at no extra cost. What’s more, with a tiny Xbox download size of just 2GB, you’ll be pillaging villages in no time.
