If you weren’t already looking forward to dozens of upcoming games, chances are that the recent games showcases from Xbox, Ubisoft, PlayStation and all the rest have changed that. I was already struggling to keep up with this year’s releases so far, but good lord, my backlog is soon going to be in even more danger.
Understandably, much of the internet’s focus has been on the big AAA titles such as Star Wars Outlaws (Ubisoft’s open-world Star Wars adventure featuring an oddly seductive droid) and Fable, which finally got a new trailer years after its initial teaser. However, here’s a simple plea from me - don’t forget about all of the promising indie games, okay? Right now on Steam, gamers can check out an upcoming Metroidvania title totally free ahead of its release, and it really seems like it could end up being a hidden gem.
Take a look at the trailer for Ebenezer and The Invisible World below.
Ebenezer and The Invisible World is described as a “story-rich 2D Metroidvania adventure”, and stars none other than Ebenezer Scrooge (as a good guy) in a gorgeous hand-drawn world based on the classic Charles Dickens novel, A Christmas Carol. Ebenezer must enlist the help of different ghosts to unlock new powers and ultimately save London from industrialist Caspar Malthus (as well as his Private Guard). As you explore London, you’ll be able to uncover more about the dark underbelly of the Malthus family.

As you can see from the trailer, the whole game looks genuinely gorgeous, and the utilisation of the ghosts to traverse the map and fight enemies is such a fun concept. Although there’s no release window for Ebenezer and The Invisible World just yet, those on PC can try out the free demo on Steam right now.
Ebenezer and The Invisible World is coming to PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Series X/S in the future.
