Popular Twitch streamer Asmongold has landed himself in a bit of controversy, after telling his audience that small “fat or ugly” streamers aren’t likely to get many views, oh dear.
Asmongold is a bit of a superstar on the platform, who began his career as a content creator around 12 years ago in 2011 on both YouTube and Twitch. He began streaming full-time in 2014, where he primarily plays World of Warcraft and reacts to other content with his followers. Asmongold has since developed an impressive following, amassing a whopping 3.2 million followers on his main account.
During one of his recent livestreams, the creator began discussing the ins and outs of the Twitch streaming world with his viewers. This covered what it takes for new streamers to succeed on the platform. In a particularly heated part of the rant, Asmongold said the following:
Advert
“Well here’s the thing right, you wanna know a really really uncomfortable sh**ty truth? Is that if you’re ugly, people won’t like you … So if you’re really fat and really ugly, it doesn’t matter how funny you are, people just aren’t gonna like you … That’s it.”
This harsh and brutal revelation didn’t necessarily go down well with the community, and it’s clear to see why. Despite the controversy, Asmongold’s Twitch career isn’t likely to suffer from the outburst, after all, other streamers have done a lot worse than this.
Twitch has become a popular platform for people seeking out their own slice of the internet, with the latest reports indicating there are over 8 million active Twitch streamers, covering a variety of topics like gaming, music, vlogging, etc. It’s also reported that a jaw-dropping 140 million viewers tune into streams every single month, making it an incredibly profitable platform if you can get the right number of viewers, and don’t get banned.
