Star Wars fans can look forward to a brand-new prequel set long before the events of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. It's coming soon, and there's even a cheeky little preview for you to enjoy.
While The Phantom Menace may not be the most beloved Star Wars story, the events leading up to what would be the fall of the Jedi have all fascinated fans.
Certainly, I really enjoyed the recent prequel series The Acolyte for the way it depicted the Jedi as a deeply flawed institution long before Anakin Skywalker ever arrived on the scene.

As I'm sure you've heard by now, however, The Acolyte was cancelled after just one season. I'm pretty confident we'll see the tragedy of Darth Plagueis The Wise explored somewhere else down the line, of course, but it sucks that other characters will never really get more time to develop.
The good news is that while the prequel to the prequels might not be returning for another series, we're getting a prequel to the prequel to the prequel trilogy. Yep, The Acolyte is getting a series of spinoffs set before the events of the show.
Star Wars: The Acolyte – Kelnacca #1 is a special one-shot written by Cavan Scott with art by Marika Cresta that will explore the life of the Wookie Jedi.
"It's been so exciting to draw a line from The Acolyte back to The High Republic era we've been building in comics, books, audio and animation," Scott told io9. "

Kelnacca is the perfect character to bridge the gap between the time of Leslye Headland's spectacular series to the age of Starlight Beacon, the threat of Marchion Ro, and the marauding Nihil. In this comic, we will learn more about one of the most intriguing aspects of Kelnacca's design: the meaning behind those mysterious tattoos. Along the way we'll see the struggle of a Padawan and a master who is stoic, wise, and, ultimately, a true practitioner of Light and Life."
The new prequel will arrive next week, but you can take a look at some preview pages over here. Happy reading!
