New Star Wars prequel set before Phantom Menace to focus on underrated character

New Star Wars prequel set before Phantom Menace to focus on underrated character

The latest series in the Star Wars franchise is set to focus on a new fan-favourite

Star Wars latest TV outing The Acolyte may have come to an end last month, but Disney and Marvel already have something in the works for one of the most beloved characters from the show.

As detailed in CBR's exclusive sneak peak, the fan-favourite Wookie Kelnacca is getting their own comic series that's debuting on September 4th this year.

Star Wars: The Acolyte - Kelnacca prequel series will seemingly focus on Kelnacca training their padawan, if the art from the recently revealed interior pages are anything to go by.

Cavan Scott, who is best know for his work on the Star Wars: Vader's Castle comics and the Doctor Who comic/book tie-in series, will be taking up writing duties for the series Star Wars: The Acolyte - Kelnacca.

Marika Cresta will be working on the interior art for the series too, hot off the back of their work on the Star Wars: Doctor Aphra series that finished earlier this year.

Kelnacca's backstory in The Acolyte TV series was left intentionally vague, but many have theorised that the Wookie was actually a Wayseeker. Wayseekers are solitary Jedi who operate outside of the Jedi High Council, choosing to follow their own path by following the Force's guidance.

Given that Kelnacca had isolated themselves on Khofar, at least when they were first introduced in The Acolyte, and that the prequel comic book shows them directly working with the Jedi High Council by training padawans, it does imply that the comic series is going to explore exactly what led to Kelnacca distancing themselves from the rest of the Jedi.

Wayseekers have been mostly underexplored since they were introduced to the Star Wars canon back in 2021 in The High Republic: Into the Dark novel, so we'll have to wait until September to find out exactly what Disney have in store the series' future.
