Star Wars has officially recast major legacy characters in an upcoming Disney Plus series.
It can often be a touchy subject when beloved characters are recast, which is something Marvel and DC fans are very used to at this point. That being said, it can be no less disheartening when an actor nails a role only to be replaced by another actor for the same character.
Check out the Andor season two trailer below!
Being a lifelong Star Wars fan, one of my unexpected favourites of the movie saga is 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Without giving too much away, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is set directly before the events leading up to Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope and tells the tale of how the Death Star plans were stolen by the Rebel Alliance which played a major role in defeating The Galactic Empire.
Another story set before the events of Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope is the Disney Plus series, Andor.
The first season of Andor was released in 2022 and pre-dates Rogue One: A Star Wars Story but in its second and final season, it builds up to the events of the 2016 movie.
So, it makes sense that if Andor season two leads up to the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, actors will return to reprise their roles, right? Sadly, that is not the case, at least with some actors involved.

In a tweet shared by Star Wars Holocron (via The Hollywood Reporter), the creator of Andor, Tony Gilroy has confirmed that some legacy characters have been recast in season two.

The reason given for the recasts is a combination of scheduling conflicts and financial issues but it makes it no less disappointing.
Those not reprising roles are Felicity Jones who played the leading role of Jyn Erso in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Jimmy Smits played Bail Organa in Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones, Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, Rogue One as well as the Obi-Wan Kenobi series is not reprising his role.
What’s more, Ben Daniels who played General Marrick and Alistair Petrie who played General Draven in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story are also not returning.

The first three of 12 episodes of Andor season two will premiere on Disney Plus on 22 April with the final three episodes concluding on 13 May 2025.
