Star Wars quietly confirms where Grogu was during the sequel trilogy

What was Grogu up to?

Star Wars may have confirmed what Grogu was up to during the sequel trilogy.

When the first Star Wars movie was released in 1977 with Episode I - A New Hope, it instantly achieved legendary status and would become one of the biggest franchises in all of entertainment, and decades later the Force is still going strong.

In 2019, we were treated to the Disney Plus series The Mandalorian which has so far had three seasons starring Mando (Pedro Pascal), a feared Mandalorian of the New Republic era, and his loveable buddy Din Grogu, formerly known as “Baby Yoda”.

The Mandalorian is set in 9 ABY (After the Battle of Yavin), roughly five years after the events of Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi.

Other than Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker, which was released a month after the first episode of The Mandalorian, all movies were released before the Disney Plus series and that, of course, includes the sequel trilogy.

So with that in mind, many Star Wars fans have wondered what Grogu was up to during the sequel trilogy and we may have some form of an answer, albeit very vague, provided by one of the producers of The Mandalorian, Dave Filoni.

When asked about Grogu’s whereabouts by The Hollywood Reporter, Filoni replied: “That’s a great question, and we talk about many different things. That’s a question for a bunch of characters, by the way, not just Grogu. Where are they during these events?”

“If anything, having made The Clone Wars and weaving a tale so intricately between two movies that were much closer together, I’ve learned that there’s expansive room in this galaxy for us to tell stories and have characters doing things,” he continued.

“In my experience, there’s definitely a way to weave everything together and make it exciting. It’s possible it would never even have to cross over with what we saw [in the sequel trilogy] if the story has us somewhere else.”

So basically, in a nutshell, the galaxy is huge, so he could've been up to any number of things. Grogu’s true origins are yet to be revealed but the folks at Disney and Lucasfilm may find a way to tell that story one day, perhaps in an upcoming movie.

A fourth season of The Mandalorian hasnt been announced but we’re getting the movie The Mandalorian & Grogu, expected to arrive in cinemas on 22 May 2026.

You can watch the entire Star Wars saga right now on Disney Plus.
