Star Wars Phantom Menace prequel movie will take us further back than ever before

Star Wars Phantom Menace prequel movie will take us further back than ever before

A galaxy far, far, far away

The Star Wars universe has already been explored quite substantially, both in TV and film.

Yet, this Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace prequel intends to go even further back.

We learnt a couple of years ago that a new Star Wars film was in the works, however, we were given few other details beyond its existence and title.

Now, its director, James Marigold, has revealed greater insight into Dawn of the Jedi.

Check out our interview with the Skeleton Crew cast

During an interview with MovieWeb, Marigold spoke of the upcoming film’s setting, and how it’s important to “make something new”.

As we know, however, the fandom doesn’t always take too kindly to innovation – we’ve seen that in how Skeleton Crew has been treated, and the cancellation of The Acolyte.

Still, Marigold is hopeful.

What is more, his plans for the movie are intriguing.

“The Star Wars movie would be taking place 25,000 years before any known Star Wars movies takes place,” the director explained.

“It's an area and a playground that I've always [wanted to explore] and that I was inspired by as a teenager. I'm not that interested in being handcuffed by so much lore at this point that it's almost immovable, and you can't please anybody.”

This means we’ll venture into unchartered waters; how very exciting.

We need to rein in our excitement though, for there’s not even a rough estimation of when the film will be released.

That said, we can hazard a guess that it’ll be several years before we’re booking cinema tickets to see Dawn of the Jedi.

In the meantime, we have the second season of Andor and Visions Vol. 3 to look forward to this year.

It’s a meagre offering, some would argue, but we’d rather the odd tasty morsel than a feast that delivers nothing of substance.
