“I have a really bad feeling about this,” Han Solo once said, and it’s a sentiment Star Wars fans are now echoing.
Lucasfilm has had a busy couple of years, but only in the world of television.
It was 2019 that the last Star Wars film, The Rise of Skywalker, landed.

In the years since, the company has brought us The Mandalorian, Andor, Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Book of Boba Fett, Skeleton Crew, The Acolyte, and Ahsoka - and that’s just the live-action TV output.
It seems, however, that Star Wars will soon be returning to where it all began, the silver screen.
It was previously reported that Disney and Lucasfilm had commenced development on the next Star Wars film trilogy, with Rebels creator Simon Kinberg at the helm.
This isn’t to be confused with the upcoming Rey film, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

Instead, Kinberg is rumoured to be developing a totally separate project. Some reports claim that it’ll follow on from the sequel trilogy, essentially comprising episodes 10 to 12.
Others say that it’ll be a totally new storyline which, I have to say, does make a lot of sense given that Rey is clearly busy elsewhere.
ICYMI: We sat down with the cast and creatives of Skeleton Crew.
Either way, it’s a film trilogy that Star Wars fans feel extremely dubious about.

Why? Well, as well as creating Rebels, Kinberg made his directorial debut in 2019 with X-Men film Dark Phoenix.
Yes, the same Dark Phoenix that scored 22% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.
“There is no vision for this franchise. Just stop, please,” said Reddit user PolarSparks.
“How the hell does this guy, who consistently writes bad moves, keep getting high profile jobs?” added jlusedude.

“Oh god, please, no. I'm not particularly hopeful after [episodes seven to nine],” commented wannabe_irishman.
It’s not all doom and gloom.
A slightly more optimistic kormaciek offered this view: “From the guy that brought us Dark Phoenix? Sorry, I have bad feelings. IMO, he's better at producing, and writing/directing coherent movies could be out of his league. But who knows, the last trilogy was lacking coherent ideas/writing/directing though. I wish him good, hell, I want good movies.”
Perhaps the trilogy is something we’ll hear more about at this April’s Star Wars Celebration event, or maybe it’ll get stuck in development hell like every other Star Wars film announced in the last six years.

It could go either way.
