For some, the early 2000 Spider-Man movies from Sam Raimi starring Toby Maguire as the friendly neighbourhood hero are the best Marvel movies featuring the webbed hero, well, perhaps not 2007’s Spider-Man 3.
Toby Maguire would make a triumphant return as Spider-Man alongside Andrew Garfield in the 2021 movie, Spider-Man: No Way Home with Tom Holland, a movie that is also regarded as one of the best Spidey movies of all time. Spider-Man: No Way Home earned a very respectable score of 93% from critics and 98% from the audience on the aggregate website, Rotten Tomatoes.

Since the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, not only have fans been calling for Andrew Garfield to complete his trilogy of The Amazing Spider-Man movies but fans would also love to see Toby Maguire get Spider-Man 4, especially as there were plans for Sam Raimi’s fourth movie before it was reportedly cancelled by in Sony in 2010.

Now it seems more than ever that the possibility of the fourth Toby Maguire Spider-Man movie from Sam Raimi is becoming closer to a reality after the director seemingly declared an interest in the revival. As reported by fandomwire.com, Raimi allegedly told Twitter user LukasASoaresRM when asked about Spider-Man 4: “He told me that there are chances of this happening simply because he has the same desire as we do. But if it is to happen, it will be at the right time.”

We should take all rumours with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise. That being said, this is not the first time that Sam Raimi has declared his interest in making Spider-Man 4. Back in April 2022 following the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Raimi said: “I didn’t think it was possible but after jumping back in with the multiverse, I realised, just like Doctor Strange does, anything is possible now. So I’m completely open to it.”
It’s fair to say that when it comes to Marvel movies, Sony hasn't been knocking it out of the park lately, especially when we’re talking about the 2022 movie Morbius and this year's Madame Web. Assuming that Sony does the Toby Maguire movies the justice they deserve, releasing Spider-Man 4 in cinemas could be a great way to get back into the good graces of fans. The same can also be said for the third Andrew Garfield movie.
Hopefully, Sony will hear the pleas of fans and Sam Raimi and give us the Spider-Man movies that both Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield deserve.
