Doctor Doom is now the next major Marvel Cinematic Universe villain, replacing Kang The Conqueror following Jonathan Majors’ criminal charges.
It was a huge deal when the news broke, as many thought Kang would have made a great villain and a simple recast would have been better than throwing him out entirely.
Let’s be real though, how can we take Kang as a multiversal threat when the last time we saw him he’d been beaten by Ant-Man?
Now that the dust has settled a bit many fans have pivoted their opinions to be more supportive of Doctor Doom’s, with the character's debut presumably making his debut in Avengers: Doomsday, but we might see him earlier in Fantastic Four (2025).

The only criticism is Robert Downey Jr playing the character, no shade against him, people just think it’s a weird choice for such an important Marvel villain.
In an old Reddit thread that said “Let’s be honest to ourselves… replacing Kang with Dr. Doom was the right choice” many fans in the comments agreed that Doom makes more sense as the next big baddie, but the casting remains questionable.
“Replacing Kang with Dr. Doom was the right choice...Casting Robert Downey Jr. as Dr. Doom was 33 steps back” read one of the comments, with another supporting it saying “absolutely. I've been wanting this for a while, as a Doom fan. And as someone who wanted a more accurate Secret Wars. But I want a different actor. Not a Stark variant.”
It is a weird pivot for sure, but I’m interested to see how it all plays out on the big-screen as I’m sure the likes of Kevin Feige and other studio people know the importance of the character to fans.
