It’s been in the works for close to a decade at this point, but for some reason, fans still can’t quite wrap their head around Sam Wilson leading the Avengers in the MCU.
In a recent interview with Collider's Garrett Blaney, Captain America: Brave New World's director Julius Onah spoke about Sam Wilson's role as the "leader of the Avengers" in the upcoming slate of Marvel films.
"All I'll say is, right now my heart and soul is in this film, but I think this is a movie that cements Captain America and Sam Wilson as our new Captain America as a leader of the Avengers going forward,” stated Onah, “So I'm just really excited about getting this out in the world."

And over in the r/MarvelStudios_Rumours subreddit, this once again reignited the debate over Sam taking over the role as Captain America from Steve.
“Just [because] he wears that suit, there's more than a handful who could currently take him with little effort,” commented user St0n3yM33rkat.
“Tom's Spider-Man would wreck him before even starting down the actual line of people qualified to lead what is, essentially, and will soon be becoming more of, an army of super powered beings.”
Captain America: Brave New World releases in cinemas this Friday.
“I feel like he needs to wear a Captain America helmet for it to really work,” replied user RooMan7223.

“With just the goggles, all I see is Falcon with a star on his chest. Plus since he doesn’t have the serum he has more reason to need a helmet.”
Hey, at least that last comment is more fashion tips than anything else.
Still, I’m surprised it’s taking people so long to get on board with this. Steve could have chosen a handful of people to take over the mantle of Captain America at the end of Avengers: Endgame, but he chose Sam.
Bucky was standing right there, and he chose Sam. He obviously saw something in him, so Sam just need a chance to prove that in… oh, I dunno… the upcoming film Captain America: Brave New World?
