Awards season is officially underway in Hollywood, kicking off with the Golden Globes. It was an interesting night. On one hand, it was refreshing to see winners actually given ample time to make a speech. On the other, host Jo Koy largely fell flat with his roast-style jokes.
In case you missed it, HBO’s The Last of Us was up for three awards: Drama TV Series, Actor in a Drama TV Series for Pedro Pascal, and Actress in a Drama TV Series for Bella Ramsey. Unfortunately, it missed out on all three with the excellent Succession nabbing those particular wins. The Super Mario Bros. Movie also had three nominations, for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, Best Motion Picture - Animated, and Best Original Song - Motion Picture, but lost out to Barbie, The Boy and the Heron, and ‘What Was I Made For’ respectively.
The Last of Us Part II Remastered lands very soon on 19 January. Take a look at our hands-on preview of No Return.
I want to draw your attention to Mark Hamill who attended the event. Hamill wasn’t nominated this particular night but he did win in a way as he took to Twitter to celebrate meeting his “mother” Natalie Portman. I’m imagining that Star Wars fans are beginning to catch on. Mark Hamill is perhaps best known for portraying Luke Skywalker in the original Star Wars trilogy, reprising the role in the sequel trilogy.

Natalie Portman also did a stint in Star Wars, during the prequel trilogy era, as Luke’s mother Padmé Amidala. Unfortunately, Padmé dies during childbirth so she never actually meets Luke. As such, the two actors have never shared a scene in the franchise - and apparently, until now, have never met.
Hamill shared a photo of the duo together at the Golden Globes, captioning it with, “Now I have finally met my ‘mother’, thanks to the Golden Globes”. A very wholesome interaction, I think we can all agree.
