The internet briefly caught wind of a rumour that Natalie Portman may reprise her role as Padmé Amidala in the next season of the Star Wars Disney+ series Ashoka, and everyone collectively lost their minds for a short moment in time.
The rumour comes courtesy of Nate Manning over on Star Wars News Net (per Kristian Harloff).
“Dave Filoni has been pushing hard to bring Portman back into the Star Wars fold,” reveals Manning.

“This comes after Harloff has recently reported that Ahsoka will bring back Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi, Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker, and Ariana Greenblatt’s young Ahsoka. He says he believes the two sides are close to reaching a deal.”
So, how is this possible exactly? Didn’t she, y’know, die from heartbreak? Seems like a tough one to come back from, personally.
Well, the real answer is we don’t know. But alternatively, it doesn’t seem fans care either - as most folks online are pretty excited to hear about Portman’s return to the role.
“I actually really like the prequel and I feel like Anakin and Padme have one of the best love stories in Star Wars so I would really like to see Natalie Portman back,” commented user @Hvstmn1984, “especially her and Hayden together again.”

“Opportunity for all time biggest plot twist: Palpatine was right- by Anakin turning to the dark side, he and Palpatine were able to unlock the secret of life and save Padmé from death,” replied user @theStory__0.
Well, hope you guys weren’t too excited to see her return - as Star Wars News Network have since updated their story.
According to a source close to SWNN, “the rumor shared below is not accurate” and “Natalie Portman is not in negotiations to return to Ahsoka Season 2.”
Well, that was fun while it lasted. Still, these are two highly conflicted sources, so potentially we might hear more out of this down the line.

Or potentially, Disney just wants to keep things a secret…
