The sequel to I Am Legend is still going ahead, and actor Will Smith has teased it in a new interview.
I won’t lie, I’m a big fan of I Am Legend, it’s not a perfect film by any means but I was really hooked by its premise. When I heard a sequel was getting made I was a little bit skeptical as to how they’d make it work but it sounds like they know what they’re doing.

For those who haven’t seen it, I Am Legend follows Dr. Robert Neville, a scientist and supposed sole survivor of an outbreak that destroys the world, transforming what were once people into violent creatures that can only come out at night.

The film explores the idea of isolation, with Neville spending his days in a torn-apart New York desperately trying to create a cure for the outbreak, slowly losing his sanity as time goes on.
If you’ve seen the film you might be a little confused as to how a sequel is being made, but it’s been said the next film will be a continuation of the alternate ending found in the DVD release.
Speaking with ScreenRant Will Smith has let a few details on the sequel slip, including what character Michael B. Jordan will play.
The actor said: “What we were gonna do was the prequel … And [Akiva Goldsman] was like, but wait, what if we make a new version from the alternate ending where your character is still alive and you know, Michael B. Jordan’s character currently is the head of a new settlement.”

Smith described the plot as “a cool concept,” and confirmed Michael B. Jordan’s character is the head of a settlement found in Connecticut.
Sounds exciting, but I do wonder how they’re going to recapture the atmosphere of the original with so many human characters on-screen. What made the first film so compelling was seeing Smith’s character deal with being isolated.
