Filming is now finally underway on House of the Dragon’s third season so it’s fair to say that it’s unlikely to drop before mid-to-late 2026.
It’s never too early for a tease though.
At last night’s BAFTA Games Awards, I had the opportunity to catch up with actor, and now developer, Abubakar Salim.

Abubakar ended up taking away the award for ‘Game Beyond Entertainment’ for his Surgent Studios’ debut title Tales of Kenzera: Zau, which the actor both starred in and directed.
But House of the Dragon fans will likely know Abubakar as Alyn of Hull, the bastard son of Lord Corlys Velaryon and a sailor in the Velaryon fleet.
Abubakar debuted in the role in the show’s second season, and those who know a thing or two about where House of the Dragon is heading will be familiar with the fact that he’ll be partaking in one of season three’s major set pieces.
Tales of Kenzera: Zau recently joined PlayStation Plus’ extra tier.
House of the Dragon’s second season was a slow burner; it set up the series’ various families and factions like chess pieces ahead of the all-out war that season three appears to promise.

That war will include the infamous Battle Of The Gullet which, according to author George R.R. Martin’s source material, was one of the bloodiest sea battles ever witnessed in all of Westeros’ history.
It’s something Abubakar is very much in the throes of putting together, stepping away from filming specifically to attend the BAFTAs before returning to the House of the Dragon set the next day.
Naturally, I had to ask what we might be able to expect from the sequence.
“I’m going to be pulling out my Kratos,” the actor told us, referring to God of War’s famously angered and violent protagonist. “That’s all I’m going to say.”

“Crazy. It’s going to be crazy. I’m just ready to dive in. It should be good.”
Well, that’s secured my hype. Let’s be honest, House of the Dragon has never let us down before when it comes to sheer spectacle.
I doubt the Battle Of The Gullet is going to skew from that trend.
