While I’ve never claimed to know everything about the Wizarding World, I am surprised that I’ve never stumbled across this tidbit before.
Did you know that Henry Cavill narrowly missed out on a role in the original Harry Potter film trilogy?
If you didn’t, I’ll give you a minute to ponder who it might be, bearing in mind that Cavill was in his 20s during the 00s.

Got someone in mind?
Well, you’re correct if you’re thinking of Cedric Diggory.
Yes, the role ultimately went to Robert Pattinson, kickstarting his career, but Cavill was one of the other names in contention.
Harry Potter will return, with HBO’s TV adaptation due to land next year.
In fact, Cavill was also up against Pattinson for the role of Edward Cullen in Twilight.

He previously spoke about the fact on Josh Horowitz’s Happy, Sad, Confused podcast.
“I definitely auditioned for that one,” Cavill said of Cedric Diggory. “And did not get it.”
“The audition may have gone well. It may have gone terribly. I’m sure someone out there has footage which hopefully is locked away and will never be seen. I didn’t get it; it wasn’t right.”
I think most of us would agree that Pattinson did a fantastic job with the role of Cedric, but it’s interesting to ponder what Cavill’s casting might’ve been like.

The only problem is that Cavill is a pretty strong, muscly guy.
And while he was once, of course, leaner and younger, people can’t quite seem to look past his impressive physique.
“Worked out for the best imo,” wrote Reddit user WhiteAle01.
Let’s face it, while I’m sure missing out on the roles of Cedric and Edward proved disappointing at the time for Cavill, neither particularly set back his career.

Cavill is arguably one of the most beloved actors out there today - and I, for one, cannot wait to see what he’s cooking up in the Warhammer department on his new Prime Video collaboration.
