Harry Potter fans divided over Voldemort recast: 'I don't see it'

Harry Potter fans divided over Voldemort recast: 'I don't see it'

Should it go ahead?

Harry Potter fans are doubtful if the role of Voldemort in the upcoming HBO Max show should be recast or not.

Voldemort is without a doubt one of the coolest villains in fiction, being an all-powerful dark wizard with a horrifying design and an unpredictable personality.

Voldemort first appeared in the flesh in Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire

One minute he’ll be calm and courteous and the next he’ll be feeding someone to a giant snake, making him a perfect foil to an inexperienced Harry Potter.

Voldemort will soon return to out screens in the HBO Max reboot series, probably in the first season since Voldemort is technically the villain of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, which is Sorcerer’s Stone if you’re in the US.

While we don’t know who’ll be playing the antagonist, Ralph Fiennes, the actor who brough him to life in the films, has suggested Cillian Murphy for the role.

In an interview with Variety Fiennes addressed the rumours that Cillian Murphy was being eyed for the role, saying “Cillian is a fantastic actor … That’s a wonderful suggestion. I would be all in favor of Cillian.”

Fans aren’t too sure though, and have made as much clear online in response to Fiennes’ blessing.

“I just don't see any big name actors like that signing on to do this show for however many years” said one fan, but we have to remember The Last Of Us’ HBO series signed Pedro Pascal on for its first season, and Harry Potter is an enormously popular franchise.

“They should really mess with everyone and cast Joseph Fiennes as Voldemort” teased another.

What they could do in the show’s first season is make Voldemort more of a shadowy villain and keeping his appearance and the actor playing him a secret to be unveiled in later seasons, that’d be a fun idea.
