Harry Potter fans will be very familiar with The Marauder’s Map.
The magical map, created by Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew, Sirius Black, and James Potter using a Homonculous Charm, tracks the movement of all of those within Hogwarts.
It’s no surprise that it was used by the Marauders for rather mischievous purposes, hence the origin of “I solemnly swear I’m up to no good”.

Eventually, the map fell into the hands of Fred and George Weasley who subsequently gifted the map to Harry in Prisoner of Azkaban.
The map came in pretty handy for the boy who lived on multiple occasions, and his companions too.
In fact, it was during the Battle of Hogwarts that Ron and Hermione used the map to locate Harry ahead of the final confrontation between him and Voldemort.
But what became of the map after The Deathly Hallows?

There’s very little information available on the Wizarding World post-Deathly Hallows, the nonsensical The Cursed Child aside.
That being said, the fate of The Marauder’s Map is one thing that has been confirmed.
HBO’s Harry Potter TV show will adapt one book per season.
When The Deathly Hallows was published, author J.K. Rowling partook in an interview with fans, with one enquiring about The Marauder’s Map.

“What child did Harry give The Marauder’s Map to, if any?” they asked, as per a transcript posted by accio-quote.
“I've got a feeling he didn't give it to any of them, but that James sneaked it out of his father's desk one day,” Rowling replied.
That confirms that the map continued working even after Lupin, the last of the Marauders, died as some suspected the enchantment might then cease to work.
It makes sense that Harry wouldn’t want to single out any of his children, giving them the map.

That being said, I’m also not wholly surprised that James ended up with it.
There’s a somewhat satisfying full-circle moment in having James Potter acquire the map after his namesake created it.
