Harry Potter fan unearths dark theory explaining Voldemort's physical return

This is dark, even for the Dark Lord

Despite being initially perceived as a children’s novel, the Harry Potter series evolved with its audience as they grew older with some mature themes being later implemented such as the rebirth of one of the most iconic villains in all of entertainment, Lord Voldemort.

In total, there are seven Harry Potter novels and eight movies with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows being split into two parts for the cinematic finale. However, the topic of today’s discussion is the fourth movie/novel, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, which sees the sinister Lord Voldemort regain his human form and start his new reign of tyranny.

Check out the Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire trailer below!

Without giving too much away, when we first see Lord Voldemort (played by Ralph Fiennes) in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, he’s a grotesque, almost baby-like creature. Not much is explained as to why Lord Voldemort is like this when we see him being carried in a box by Peter “Wormtail” Pettigrew (played by Timothy Spall).

However, Reddit user JMueller2012 has a convincing theory (thanks, Looper) about why Voldemort first appears this way before assuming a more average human body later in the film.

“This is pretty dark but the tentative body that Voldemort had in Goblet of Fire (the infant-like one) was him possessing a dead child from the graveyard,” they explained. “There’s a really dark theory that Bertha Jorkins was pregnant and that he possessed the foetus to use as a body after he murdered her and Wormtail extracted it.”

So, there you have it. Of course, this isn't confirmed as canon but you have to admit, it certainly is a plausible explanation. If you weren't already grossed out by that Lord Voldemort baby in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, you probably are now. You’re welcome.
