Well, this is upsetting.
When this story made its way onto my desk, I was somewhat curious as to what familial connection I might’ve missed in Harry Potter.
I now wish the information had never registered in my brain.
Advert
You see, it turns out that pretty much everyone in the Wizarding World is related which feels a tad, well, suspect.
But I’ll point out a few major connections.
Arthur Weasley’s mother was Cedrella, and she married Septimus Weasley.
But Cedrella’s maiden name was none other than … Black.
Advert
Yes, Arthur is related to Sirius which apparently makes them second cousins once removed.
Harry Potter will return when HBO’s TV series hits our screens next year.
There’s also a connection between Molly and Sirius though too.
Advert
Sirius’ aunt Lucretia married Molly’s uncle Ignatius Prewett, making them cousins by marriage too.
The Blacks are also related to the Potters and Malfoys.
Dorea Black married Charles Potter.
Cygnus Black married Drusella Rossier, with the couple going on to have two children: Bellatrix and Narcissa.
Advert
You may know Bellatrix as a Lestrange, but that’s because she married Rodolphus Lestrange, losing her maiden name of Black.
Narcissa, of course, went on to marry Lucius Malfoy.
It’s perhaps also worth noting that Callidora Black married Harfang Longbottom.
All of this is to say that basically every major wizarding family is related so make of that what you will.
Advert
Oh, but there’s more.
If Arthur is Sirius’ second cousin once removed and Molly is Sirius' cousin by marriage does that mean Arthur and Molly are … related?!
I can’t bear to ponder this any longer.
