There is no denying that the Harry Potter series is full to the brim with interesting characters who all descend from magical bloodlines and as a result, some family trees can be difficult to wrap your head around.

However, thanks to some hardcore Harry Potter fans, we now have some new information surrounding Harry and one other character.

In the meantime, check out the trailer for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II below!

That being said, it is probably not the information that any of us asked for or will appreciate.

That is because according to MatthewLauder over on r/harrypotter, it would seem as though our Boy Who Lived and his eventual wife, Ginny Weasley, are actually related.

“I got bored,” MatthewLauder shared. “Harry and Ginny are double cousins”.

This startling statement was accompanied by a hand-drawn family tree which indeed shows that Harry and Ginny are related, albeit distantly related.

Taking information from the books and the official Pottermore site, Matthew constructed this family tree but admits they had to make a few assumptions along the way.

“Yeah I made two assumptions.

  1. That Henry Potter is the un-named son of Charlus Potter and Dorea Black.
  2. That Molly Prewett is the un-named child of Lucetia Black and Ignatius Prewett.

“Also double cousins are not the same as second cousins. Second cousins share great-grandparents. Double cousins are cousins in two different ways,” he continued.

“And no it’s not incest, and actually the average relation of married couples in America is seventh cousins. Just interesting to see!”

So it is nothing to worry about but is definitely an interesting piece of information for hardcore fans out there.

User nitasu987 agreed, saying: “It always blows my mind how pretty much everyone in HP is related to each other.

Must have been awkward for Harry to find out that not only is he related to Ron and Neville, but to MALFOY too. Though, I wonder if defining blood relations in the wizarding world is different.”

It seems as though our Harry Potter cast definitely supports keeping it in the family to say the least.
