GTA 6 move over, we're getting a Grand Theft Auto movie

This is not what we expected

Forget about GTA VI, we’ve got no time for that now, because we’re finally getting a Grand Theft Auto movie, kind of.

Fans have been calling for a movie inspired by Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto series for years and we’re finally getting it. However, it’s probably not the movie that we expected to see.

Check out the GTA VI trailer below!

While there is a movie that predates the Rockstar Games series that has no direct connection to Grand Theft Auto, a movie set in Liberty City, Vice City or Los Santos is something fans have wanted for a long time.

There have been some rumours over the years that Rockstar Games might one day release a live-action GTA movie but at the time of writing, there is no indication that such a project will come to fruition.

That being said, a movie inspired by Grand Theft Auto is on the way but it’s not from Rockstar Games nor its parent company, Take-Two Interactive.

As reported by Dexerto, Grand Theft Auto Hamlet is a fan-made documentary and it’s created 100% in GTA Online, we kid you not. A trailer even includes the moviemakers being killed by other GTA Online players, how rude!

Grand Theft Auto Hamlet, as the name suggests, is also inspired by the famous William Shakespeare play and it will follow the lives of Sam and Mark during the COVID pandemic. This documentary has even won an award at SXSW.

It’s said that the movie has not only been created by playing GTA Online but a lot of the camera shots are from the in-game mobile phone.

There is no solid release date for Grand Theft Auto Hamlet but it is expected to arrive in 2025 (the same year as GTA VI) and will be streamed on platforms such as MUBI.

GTA VI will be released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S with its PC release yet to be announced.
