The dust just won’t settle on Netflix’s The Witcher debacle. In case you missed it, and I really hope I’m not the one to break the news to you, Henry Cavill has exited the series. Cavill will portray Geralt of Rivea in the upcoming third season but this will mark his final appearance. Liam Hemsworth will then take on the role in season four.
Cavill hasn’t exactly provided a reason for his exit but it’s pretty clear to see. The Witcher is departing from Andrzej Sapkowski’s source novels, much to the dismay of Cavill who has fought for book accuracy. In fact, some producers have reportedly even mocked the books. With this in mind, fans began a petition asking Netflix to fire the show’s writers and rehire Cavill. None of this mess is Liam Hemsworth’s fault, but the actor hasn’t had the warmest welcome to the franchise.

The truth is, we haven’t yet seen Liam Hemsworth in action as Geralt of Rivea so we should really be reserving judgement. That being said, fans just aren’t vibing with the casting. One fan created a mock-up ‘first look’ at Liam in action - essentially a deep fake replacing Cavill with Hemsworth. Fans pointed out how ‘perfect’ Cavill’s version of Geralt is. I’d like to think that Liam’s audition would’ve captured some of that same essence, but fans have another idea for a Geralt replacement.

As reported by We Got This Covered, 3D artist Wonki Cho has impressed fans with a series of concept art that places actor Mads Mikkelsen in the role. I’ll admit, Mikkelsen does look very cool as Geralt and let’s be honest, everything that man touches is gold. Fans had similar opinions over on Twitter. Grunchpop wrote, “No offence to Liam Hemsworth on playing The Witcher but like, we have a perfectly good Mads Mikkelsen over here.”
Revnardent added, “Petition for Mads Mikkelsen to be the next Witcher.” Fans aren’t the only ones sad about Cavill’s departure. Actor Doug Cockle who portrays Geralt in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt also admitted he’s “sad to see him [Cavill] go.” Us too, Doug.
