There are plenty of The Last of Us related projects on the way. Naughty Dog’s new-gen remake The Last of Us Part 1 is next on the horizon, but it looks like HBO’s TV adaptation won’t be far behind it.
The very idea of a TV or film adaptation used to fill video game fans with dread. It’s fair to say that for a good while, video game adaptations were known for being pretty poor but alas, the winds are changing - and HBO’s The Last of Us could soon set the benchmark for what an adaptation should be.

Just last month, filming finally wrapped on HBO’s The Last of Us and we now know that the series will officially release in early 2023. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, HBO head honcho Casey Bloys confirmed the show’s release date as “closer to early 2023.” Cryptic, but there’s information we can unpack here. Technically, Bloys didn’t say early 2023 but “closer to,” so we can assume HBO’s The Last of Us to air in mid-spring 2023.

So much about this show remains a secret. To date, only two stills have been released. Both show Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey in action as Joel and Ellie and if you focus on the latter, you may spot a Clicker lurking in the background.
We’re yet to see anything in the way of a trailer, although leaked set videos do look promising. Franchise fans will know that The Last of Us Day (formerly known as Outbreak Day) falls on 26 September and Naughty Dog always releases some kind of update. It stands a good chance that this year, HBO may drop the first teaser trailer. I sure hope they do.
