After nine weeks of new episodes, the first season of The Last of Us has officially come to a close. Don’t worry if you’ve not caught up with it yet - as a UK viewer who didn’t stay up late last night to watch the finale immediately (fake fan, I know), I’m also playing the thrilling game of ‘avoid all spoilers like your life depends on it’ today.
Thankfully for fans, the story is far from over. After the overwhelming success of season one, it’s been confirmed that a second season adapting Part II is officially happening. Actually, according to showrunner Craig Mazin, it seems likely that the sequel’s adaptation will span two or more seasons, which makes sense when you consider how much bigger the second game is.
If you’ve not yet watched the season one finale of The Last of Us, be sure to take a look at the teaser below to see what’s in store.
Even though the first season has proven just how faithful the showrunners are to the source material (despite making a few changes for the good of the show), speaking to ComicBook at a recent press event, Mazin stated that season two won’t be exactly the same as the game. He didn’t expand on what that’ll mean for its divisive story.

“It will be different. Just as this season was different. Sometimes it will be different radically and sometimes it will be barely different at all. But it's going to be different and it will be its own thing,” he said. “It won't be exactly like the game. It will be the show that Neil [Druckmann] and I want to make.”
Mazin also revealed that he’s currently stressing out behind the scenes about adaptation, which is understandable when you consider the fury that was unleashed from within the gaming community when the sequel first launched. Let’s hope that it won’t be met with quite as much uproar the second time around.
