Us The Last of Us fans are on the precipice of greatness, I can feel it. It’s been a whopping two years since Naughty Dog released The Last of Us Part II and since then, we’ve been patiently waiting for our next post-apocalyptic instalment, and there are plenty of projects on the horizon.
Of course, there’s HBO’s TV adaptation of The Last of Us which is soon due to wrap filming, and a multiplayer The Last of Us title is also rumoured to be in the works. Presumably, a mainline third game will come at some point but our next taste will be in the form of the heavily rumoured The Last of Us remake.
The Last of Us has one of the best video game openings of all time. Check out our other favourites below.
Twitter account The Snitch recently took to the social media platform to suggest that a remake of The Last of Us will be released on 2 September, 2022. The tweet contained a gaming controller and laptop emoji suggesting that the remake will be released to both PlayStation and PC. This would mark the first time that The Last of Us has natively been released to PC. Previously, it was playable via PlayStation Now if you had a subscription.
It’s certainly not the first rumour to address the release date of a potential The Last of Us remake. Industry insider Jeff Grub stated a few weeks ago that he’d heard it was coming “this holiday” season which typically refers to November or December. The Snitch’s September release date falls slightly earlier than that but every rumour seems to fall within the same vague window, which is to say mid to late 2022.

The Snitch has a good track record as of late. The account correctly announced most of the titles revealed at last week’s State of Play ahead of the showcase. With a number of major gaming showcases taking place this week, we’d expect official confirmation to come soon and to those who ask, ‘Who actually wants a remake of The Last of Us?’ I do, okay. Let me be. Please.
