The Last of Us TV series is already a huge hit after just one episode, but one of the original game’s co-directors has seemingly been snubbed from the show’s credits, despite playing a huge role in the source material’s creation.
As Eurogamer reports, Bruce Straley co-directed The Last of Us (2013) alongside Neil Druckmann and also worked on the Left Behind DLC. Despite this, however, his name is nowhere to be seen in the TV show’s credits, and he believes that unionisation may be the answer.
Take a look at what’s coming up next in The Last of Us below.
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, it's stated that Straley now has a strained relationship with both Sony and Naughty Dog. Addressing his lack of credit in the show, he said: “It’s an argument for unionisation that someone who was part of the co-creation of that world and those characters isn't getting a credit or a nickel for the work they put into it. Maybe we need unions in the video game industry to be able to protect creators.”
Advert
Straley left Naughty Dog in 2017 after the release of Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, which he also co-directed. According to the Los Angeles Times, HBO and Sony both declined to comment on Straley’s calls for unionisation.
The Last of Us has already hit monumental viewing figures - in two days, over 10 million people watched the heartbreaking premiere. Despite the original game having one of the greatest openings of all time, many believe that the show did it better - some fans think that the TV adaptation could be even better than the source material in the long run.
Episode two is set to air on Sunday (22 January) for US viewers, and Monday (23 January) for those in the UK.
