Ubisoft has announced a brand-new free-to-play entry in Tom Clancy's The Division franchise. Because whether you like it or not, The Division is definitely a franchise now.
The Division Resurgence is an original looter shooter that's being developed for smartphones, and is slated to launch in 2023.
Take a look at the new game in action below!
"The fight for New York is not over! Rediscover the world-acclaimed franchise now on mobile with The Division Resurgence," Ubisoft proclaims. "Enjoy a AAA experience featuring a new storyline set in a massive urban open-world."

The trailer, which boasts of in-engine footage, is certainly impressive for a mobile game (or maybe I'm just showing my age by being amazed by what mobile games can do these days). Resurgence looks to be a pretty faithful adaptation of the Division experience we're used to on PC and console, complete with an open-world area to explore and all the third-person shooter action you can stomach.
As in the previous games, you'll take on the role of an agent working with the Strategic Homeland Division as you attempt to restore order in the wake of a deadly viral outbreak and the near-total fall of the government. Where do they get these ideas?
Resurgence will support solo and co-op play with a range of PVE modes and missions. A closed alpha will be released ahead of the full launch, which you can register for right now.
Funnily enough, Resurgence isn't the only free-to-play Division game in development. Last year Ubisoft announced The Division Heartland, which is being developed for consoles. Not much is known about this upcoming game yet, but it's rumoured to feature two main modes and battle royale-style gameplay across a large open-world map. No doubt we'll learn more about Resurgence and Heartland during September's Ubisoft Forward Event.
