Stranger Things 4 recently drew to a close, leaving us all in mourning over the fact that we’re probably going to have to wait several years until we get to see this story reach its conclusion. This leaves us with plenty of time to speculate over what might happen next.

That being said, recent rumours have suggested that Stranger Things’ creators the Duffer brothers have been looking to the past, re-editing older episodes under fans' noses. Whilst the duo did admit to correcting an error surrounding Will’s birthday, they have refuted all other claims.

Recently, there’s been much speculation over whether the Duffer brothers had edited a scene from season one, episode two ‘The Weirdo on Maple Street’ which featured Jonathan taking photos of Nancy. In the scene, Jonathan takes a photo of Nancy looking out the window but then stops when she begins undressing. Fans claimed that originally, Jonathan lifted his camera again as if to take another photo, but the Duffer brothers are denying this.

Tweeting from the Stranger Things writer’s room account, they said, “PSA: No scenes from previous seasons have ever been cut or re-edited. And they never will be.” The tweet was accompanied by a GIF of Dustin saying, “I swear on my mother.” Later, the account replied to a fan saying that the Jonathan scene remains as it always has been, with Jonathan lowering the camera when Nancy begins undressing.

Despite the fact that the air was cleared, the debacle continued. British GQ wrote, “Netflix retroactively editing Stranger Things is the beginning of a dangerous trend,” spawning a ton of debate. Once again, Stranger Things’ writers responded with, “It's hilarious that an article bashing the show for retroactively editing a scene (based on a false TikTok rumour) has now had to retroactively edit their own article.” So there you have it. Confusion cleared up.
