With a revamped DC Cinematic Universe waiting in the wings, one Smallville actor has pitched the potential of reprising his role as the villainous Lex Luthor in future Superman films and shows.
It is both moving and shaking over at DC Studios. The new slate, spearheaded by James Gunn and Peter Safran, is intended to reinvent what we know and what we might expect of DC adaptations, which haven't had the most stellar track record, objectively speaking. However, there was a significant shock when it was announced that Henry Cavill wouldn't be returning as Superman after all. "In the initial stages, our story will be focusing on an earlier part of Superman's life," said Gunn. This news was, naturally, received with appreciable sorrow and an acceptable level of disappointment from the most rational group in our society, the superhero movie fans.

Ergo, it's unlikely that DC Studios would ring Michael Rosenbaum up for him to reprise his role as Lex Luthor in upcoming adaptations, but the actor is available should that call come in.
"I hope I’d be in the running," replied Rosenbaum. "I mean I did play him for 7 years. Unless you guys would have a problem with that." Rosenbaum scored the Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actor on Television and the SFX Award for Best Newcomer for his performance in Smallville as well as ten other nominations over the course of the show. And, funnily enough, the actor has played The Flash in Infinite Crisis and Lego DC Super-Villains, and lent his voice to singer Johnny Charisma in Arkham Knight.

Again, if Gunn and Safran weren't ready to recall Cavill, it's not looking positive that Rosenbaum would be back. But, never say never.
