Most survival horror fans cannot get enough of Capcom’s Resident Evil series, after all, it’s a bloody good franchise full of fun, laughter and a lot of tears.
While the Resident Evil series can’t be credited with the birth of the survival horror genre, Capcom most certainly helped put the genre on the map which inspired the likes of Silent Hill, Fatal Frame, Dead Space and more as well as indie darlings such as Alisa, Tormented Souls, Signalis to name a few.

The first Resident Evil game arrived in 1996 for the original PlayStation before making its way to other platforms. Over the years we’d be treated to many sequels and remakes, each offering something a little different for fans of the series. In 2021, we saw the release of Resident Evil Village which would offer the conclusion of the Ethan Winters story which began with Resident Evil 7 in 2017.

In our review of Resident Evil Village, we said: “The overarching experience is an undoubtedly fun one that expands on the foundations laid down by Resident Evil 7, and sets up the inevitable trilogy finale being planned for Resident Evil 9.”
In many ways, despite initially being in a first-person perspective, Resident Evil Village reminded me a lot of Resident Evil 4 with its blend of action and horror. Resident Evil Village also introduced characters that would quickly become some of the most iconic in the series such as Karl Heisenberg played by Neil Newbon and of course, the infamous Lady Dimitrescu played by Maggie Robertson. Resident Evil Village was a delight from start to finish, which was later improved upon with the launch of the ‘Gold Edition’ in 2022 and with it came the Shadow of Rose story DLC, as well as a new third-person perspective and more.
If for whatever reason you’ve never played Resident Evil Village, in particular the new third-person perspective, now is your perfect chance because there’s a free playable demo for you to download now via Steam.
