Resident Evil Village has received a surprise update available to download now but as of yet, we don’t know exactly what it’s for.
The Resident Evil series has been one of the most iconic video game properties ever since Capcom released the first game in 1996 taking us to the Spencer Mansion for the very first time to uncover an Umbrella Corp. conspiracy.

Since that time, while having some bumps in the road, the Resident Evil franchise is more popular now than it ever has been. The most recent game to be released is the critically acclaimed Resident Evil 4 remake which arrived in 2023.

Earlier this year, Capcom announced that development on Resident Evil 9 (currently its unofficial title) has begun with fans hoping that it will be released sometime in 2025.
Details on Resident Evil 9 are practically non-existent at this time but rumours have led us to believe that it will see Leon S. Kennedy and Jill Valentine team up in a video game for the very first time as they take on evil forces on a mysterious island.
However, before the next game in the series arrives, there’s still plenty of fun to be had in existing titles such as the aforementioned Resident Evil Village, released in 2021 and is the conclusion to the Ethan Winters saga.
This week, as reported by Comicbook.com, a new update has been released for Resident Evil Village exclusively for PlayStation 5 with patch 1.220.000. Yet, just like the recent patch for Resident Evil 4, details on what it does have not been revealed by Capcom.

With this patch being exclusive to PlayStation 5, once more, the most likely assumption is that it's for the PS5 Pro Enhanced version which should increase resolution and performance.
Resident Evil Village is out now on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch (via a cloud). Hopefully, further details on Resident Evil 9 will be revealed in the coming months.
