Set against a backdrop of a collage of John Marston art, his voice actor Robert Allen Wiethoff spoke about his thoughts on Red Dead Redemption 3 during an interview earlier this year.
Unless you live under a rock, you would know that the Red Dead Redemption franchise is perhaps one of the biggest in gaming, perhaps only overtaken by Rockstar’s other series, Grand Theft Auto. With the most recent title, Red Dead Redemption 2, being released back in 2018, it has been quite a few years since we explored the frontier with Arthur Morgan.

With rumours of a potential Red Dead Redemption 3 (that is yet to be officially confirmed), fans are speculating as to what it could entail. This comes after rumours of a remake or remaster of Red Dead Redemption 2 that has since been cancelled. Regardless of Rockstar’s plans for the action RPG, it will no doubt be taking a back seat until the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 in 2025.

In the meantime, during an interview with Youtube channel sackchief, Wiethoff shared his thoughts on the future of the franchise. As the voice of John Marston in both games, Wiethoff should have the insider scoop on Rockstar’s plans. However, he kept his cards quite close to his chest when he revealed developing a sequel would be difficult without losing an authentic Wild West theme.
With Red Dead Redemption being set in 1911 and Red Dead Redemption 2 being set even earlier in 1899, setting a sequel after 1911 may result in some issues. As a result, Wiethoff believes another prequel would be better suited to the story and a way of showing fans the events that led up to Arthur’s story.
If this proved to be the case, it could see Dutch Van der Linde himself be Red Dead Redemption 3’s protagonist which could see us finally get answers about the events that transpired in Blackwater.
