Rockstar Games fans are patiently awaiting the studio’s next AAA release, Grand Theft Auto VI, which is set to be officially unveiled very soon. In the meantime, many are looking ahead to the next instalment of the Red Dead Redemption series, after one of it’s key voice actors discussed the possibility of a third game.
Rob Wiethoff, who voices Red Dead Redemption protagonist, John Marston, took part in an interview with sackchief on YouTube, where he discussed his experience with the series, how he landed the role and other funny stories about his career.
Wiethoff was then asked about the possibility of another prequel/sequel being made, and where the story might go following the events of the first two games. Wiethoff said: “Because so many characters in Red Dead Redemption 2 were so well developed, you could go in so many different directions now … If they did another prequel, it’d be really really cool to learn more about Blackwater, see what happened there.”

Another prequel would make the most sense for the series, given how both games have wrapped up their respective stories in pretty conclusive ways. Wiethoff’s suggestion of more Blackwater context is definitely interesting as well, given how it’s a pivotal moment in the timeline, but not one the player gets to really see or experience in gameplay, only hear about through various dialogue.
When asked if he’d be interested in reprising his role of John Marston in future Red Dead Redemption games, Wiethoff said: “Whatever they want to do, of course”
Rockstar hasn’t given any word on whether a Red Dead Redemption 3 is in the works, which isn’t surprising given the huge amount of focus on developing GTA VI. However, a third Red Dead game will likely be next on the studio’s agenda, given the resounding success of the first two games.

The possibility of a third game remains a mystery, with many fans already theorising potential plot details and characters. One thing is certain though, it’ll be a very, very, very long wait before we hear anything conclusive about the sequel/prequel’s existence, given how long Rockstar games take to make.
