Red Dead Redemption 2 just got the big update that we’ve been waiting for on PC.
Released in 2019, Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of Rockstar Games’ most popular releases in recent years. Five years after its launch, a lot of fans agree that RDR2 looks better than 99% of new games today.
Sadly however, some players have been unable to play Rockstar’s epic western adventure, all thanks to a game-breaking bug on PC when booting up the game via the Rockstar Games Launcher using Windows 11.
The bug in question is Windows 11 version update KB5023774 which prevented the game from booting up. So this is literally a game-breaking bug. Unfortunately, rather than releasing a patch to fix the problem, Microsoft were informing players to “upgrade to Windows 11, version 22H2”.

Sure, updating Windows 11 to this version would be a quick and easy fix. However, if a player prefers the version of Windows 11 that they already have, they might not want to update the OS to one that they might consider to be less suited.
Thankfully, as reported by bleepingcomputer.com, Rockstar Games has found a workaround so that players can finally enjoy Red Dead Redemption 2 when booting up via the launcher via Windows 11.
Rockstar Games has released an update to fix the issue and the patch notes state: “Improvements have been made to the stability of the Rockstar Games Launcher.” Obviously, those patch notes are very vague, but hopefully the problem has now been fixed for at least most players.
If all else fails, then updating the OS to version Windows 11 22H2 might be the only way for some to play Red Dead Redemption 2.

“If you are interested in moving to Windows 11, version 22H2, open Windows Update settings and select Check for updates. If your device is ready, you will see the option to Download and install,” Microsoft said.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is out now for PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
