Once the PlayStation 5 was out in the wild, there were a number of raised eyebrows over its design. Reminiscent of an anime antagonist or a Shellder, depending on how you were looking at it, this chunk of plastic and circuitry soon shed its persona and now, we think it's something that would be at home on the set of Star Trek.
"And they all lived happily ever after," would be what you assume. Yet, a defect in the PS5's design has led to the displeasing realisation that your £500 investment might be eroding itself this entire time. If you use your PS5 vertically, it's possible that the console’s liquid metal cooling solution can leak and then freeze over the other components. The cooling solution should be contained however it is able to be dislodged and overheating can contribute to this.
It's not just doom and gloom - check out this ultra-satisfying repair of a broken PS5 below!
With this update from Wololo, the bad news continues for those who have been standing their PS5s upright. However, if yours is on its way to you, then you've still got a chance to circumvent this unfortunate flaw. "The problem is still real AFAIK, but there is *no evidence* that it happens on consoles that have been sitting in their box. That part was a complete misunderstanding on our end," clarified Wololo in a Tweet and a change to the original article that announced the information. Truthfully, I don't know how people do use the console vertically because the height of the thing doesn't let it slot onto most shelves easily. This was such an issue that IKEA stocked cardboard versions of the new-gen consoles in its stores so customers could work out if there was space for the gizmo in their home.

Again, it's not a lot of comfort for those who have had their PS5 for two years now and weren't aware of the issue. Jot a reminder down now for when you get home - "turn PS5 onto its side".
